Maulana Azad Chair at MANUU

HYDERABAD: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to set up the Maulana Azad Chair at the city-based Maulana Azad National Urdu University. It is one of the six universities in the country where chairs would be set up to undertake extensive research on the life and works of the Maulana who played a key role in India's freedom struggle. This was revealed by A M Pathan, Manuu vice-chancellor, in his remarks while presiding over the university's eleventh foundation day on Friday.

Renowned educationist and chancellor of Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi, Syed Hamid, delivering his keynote address underscored the need to link education in Urdu with IT, mass media and other crucial areas of study.

He called for a system wherein incompetent teachers should be prevented from getting promotions. "If a hopeless teacher is promoted, he would ruin a healthy academic atmosphere by suppressing the talents of other colleagues because he perceives them as threat to his own career.''

Hamid earlier opened a photo exhibition, `Manuu at a glance,' at the Centre for Urdu Language and Culture at the campus.
