MANUUTA NEWSLETTER No. 3, Vol.1, Dated 08.04.09

MANUUTA NEWSLETTER No. 3, Vol.1, Dated 08.04.09

Dear Colleagues,

You are aware that the First General Elections took place on 06-09-2008 and the first duly elected body came into existence thereafter, and Prof. S.A. Wahab was elected as its president. Immediately after the elections, the Executive Council of the Association was formed by means of election in the concerned Depts / Directorates / Centres. Thus, a 21 member EC was constituted to guide and oversee the functioning of the office bearers. After consultation with the EC the Association submitted the first demand charter to the University authorities consisting of 15 demands on 03.12.2008. A second demand charter was submitted again on 12.03.2009 consisting of 5 more demands including the confirmation of services.

Apart from this, the Association has so far represented on various issues, particularly to mention, the implementation of revised TA as per the New PRC and against the Circular issued by the DR (Academics) regarding conditions for attending seminars, and release of 40% arrears. After the Association’s representation, 40% arrears were released in the first week of March 2009.

Official recognition from the University was granted to the Association after a long struggle and a letter of recognition was issued by the University on 05.03.2009 addressed to the then President of the Association. Unfortunately, the President resigned due to his new administrative responsibilities. The EC met on 09.03.2009 and decided to nominate the Vice–President as the Acting President of the Association. The GBM called on 09.04.2009 is for the approval of the EC decision.

Friends, the association is working peacefully by adhering to democratic values while appealing to the authorities to solve the problems of the teaching community. Unfortunately, the Association has not been getting the kind of attention and support from the authorities that a Teacher’s Association deserves. Except for granting a formal recognition on paper, the authorities have so far not cared to reply to any of the letters/demand charters given by the Association. Moreover, innumerable time’s verbal assurances were given to the office bearers by the Authorities but not a single demand has been accepted and implemented so far. This is an appeal to all of you to help strengthen ourselves and fight against the ongoing indifferent attitude of the authorities towards the teaching faculty and to make MANUU a respectable place for Teachers.

Please attend the GBM on 09.04.2009 at the CPDUMT auditorium at 4 p.m. and participate in the decision making process.
